Tiptop Labs Inc. has introduced a buy now, pay later (BNPL) program that allows consumers to trade in items for credit toward new purchases with select e-commerce merchants. This initiative is an extension of a trade-in-only app that Tiptop launched about a year ago. The program aims to enhance consumers' purchasing power by allowing them to apply the trade-in value of their old items to new purchases. According to Tiptop, households in the U.S. have an average of $1,800 worth of goods that can be traded in from their catalog of 50,000 items, including popular products like iPhones and gaming systems. The new service targets consumers who might otherwise sell their items on marketplaces like eBay or through Apple’s Trade In program. Tiptop uses a machine-learning model to determine the trade-in value and provides convenient shipping options, including prepaid labels and on-demand couriers via Uber. The BNPL service offers interest-free payments in four installments and is initially available with merchants such as Nothing Tech and Cradlewise. Tiptop plans to expand compatibility with e-commerce platforms like Shopify, Adobe Commerce, BigCommerce, and WooCommerce.
