Kansas Jayhawks: The Dark Horse of the Big 12

Kansas, under head coach Lance Leipold, has emerged as a formidable contender in the Big 12, boasting their first winning season since 2008 with a 9-4 record in 2023. The turnaround has been swift and remarkable, breaking a 14-year bowl drought in 2022. Leipold’s leadership has instilled confidence and consistency in the team, and with star quarterback Jalon Daniels returning healthy, the offensive lineup looks promising. The Jayhawks have significantly improved their scoring, moving from last in 2021 to fourth in 2023. Daniels will lead an explosive attack, supported by a strong receiver group and standout running back Devin Neal.

Defensively, Kansas has shown marked improvement, allowing the fewest points since 2007 last season. The secondary, led by All-Big 12 corners Cobee Bryant and Mello Dotson, is robust, though there are gaps to fill in the defensive line and linebackers. The team benefits from a favorable schedule, avoiding top contenders like Utah and Oklahoma State. With a large senior class and strategic transfers, Kansas is poised to make a serious run for the Big 12 title, aiming for their first since 1968.
