Affirm, the American fintech company co-founded by Max Levchin, has officially launched its installment loan services in the U.K., marking its first international expansion. Established in 2012, Affirm specializes in providing flexible pay-over-time options without late fees, making it a popular choice among consumers. The U.K. offering will feature both interest-free and interest-bearing monthly payment plans, with fixed interest rates calculated on the original principal, ensuring transparency for users. With over 50 million users and partnerships with more than 300,000 merchants, including giants like Amazon and Walmart, Affirm aims to tap into the growing demand among U.K. merchants. The initial merchants accepting Affirm payments include Alternative Airlines and Fexco, with plans to onboard more brands soon. Levchin emphasized the strategic choice of the U.K. as an English-speaking market with significant merchant interest, paving the way for future expansions into non-English-speaking regions.
