Surprise Stimulus Checks Coming for Texans Who Missed 2021 Payments

The IRS is set to issue surprise payments to one million Texans who missed out on the Recovery Rebate Credit when filing their 2021 tax returns. Starting this December, eligible taxpayers can expect to receive up to $1,400, totaling approximately $2.4 billion in disbursements. The good news is that no action is required from recipients; payments will be automatically sent via direct deposit or paper check, with most arriving by late January 2025. Eligible individuals include those who either reported $0 or left the Recovery Rebate Credit section blank on their 2021 tax forms. Additionally, even if someone did not file their 2021 taxes, they can still qualify for the stimulus check by filing their returns by April 15, 2025. The IRS will also send out letters to inform recipients of their upcoming payments, ensuring that no eligible taxpayer misses out on this financial boost.
