Stripe Teams Up with Zip to Introduce Buy Now, Pay Later Option

Online retailers using Stripe will soon offer a buy now, pay later (BNPL) option through a new partnership with Zip, an Australian-based BNPL provider. This collaboration is part of Zip's strategy to expand its presence in the U.S. market, allowing customers to split payments into four installments over six weeks. Zip's chief commercial officer, George Eliopoulos, highlighted that this partnership mirrors their existing operations in Australia and is currently in the testing and integration phase to ensure compatibility with Stripe's platform. The launch is anticipated by the end of the year, specifically targeting online merchants. This partnership follows Zip's recent collaborations with major players like Mastercard and Google Pay, indicating its aggressive approach to compete in the crowded BNPL market alongside established companies like Affirm and Klarna. Eliopoulos hinted at future partnerships, emphasizing the goal of broadening product distribution in the payment processing landscape.
