Seabourn Encore's Unusual 23,000-Mile Detour for Safety

Seabourn Cruise Line has announced a significant change in the itinerary for its luxury cruise ship, Seabourn Encore, which will now embark on a 23,000-mile journey in the opposite direction to avoid escalating violence in the Middle East. Originally scheduled to sail a more traditional route through the Indian Ocean and Red Sea, the ship will instead take an easterly course across the Pacific Ocean, through the Panama Canal, and into Europe. This decision comes in response to recent Houthi attacks on vessels in the Red Sea, prompting the cruise line to prioritize passenger safety. As a result, nearly three months of voyages from March to May 2025 have been canceled, but the ship will introduce six new itineraries that include stops in Southeast Asia, Japan, Hawaii, and several U.S. ports. Passengers who book these new voyages before November 19, 2024, can enjoy a 10% discount on their bookings.
