Research by Bumper reveals that Millennials are the primary users of buy now, pay later (BNPL) services for car repairs, servicing, and MoT bills. The trend highlights a shift in how this generation, born between 1981 and 1996, manages their automotive expenses. Instead of paying upfront or relying on credit cards, they prefer to spread costs over time, particularly as many are juggling mortgage or rent payments alongside family responsibilities. Interestingly, while the average BNPL user is 43 years old, this figure drops to 38 for those using independent workshops. Generation X, on the other hand, tends to use BNPL for larger bills, with the average age of users increasing with the size of the repair costs. The UK and Ireland boast the youngest BNPL users in Europe, with Bumper forecasting over £460 million in car repair funding this year, indicating a growing reliance on these services across generations.
