J.B. Hunt Settles Class Action for $4.26 Million Over Wage Disclosure

In a significant legal settlement, J.B. Hunt Transport, Inc. has agreed to pay $4,261,250 to resolve a class action lawsuit filed in Washington state, affecting approximately 2,200 job applicants. The lawsuit, known as Haley v. J.B. Hunt Transport, Inc., accused the trucking company of violating the state's Equal Pay and Opportunities Act, which mandates that employers provide clear wage scales or salary ranges in job postings. This law, effective January 2023, aims to promote transparency in compensation and prevent discriminatory practices in hiring. The class action includes individuals who applied for jobs at J.B. Hunt in Washington between January 1, 2023, and March 19, 2024. Under the Equal Pay and Opportunities Act, job postings must specify a pay range, eliminating vague phrases that could mislead applicants. A final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for November 1, 2024, marking a crucial step in enforcing fair pay practices in the state.
