Gulf Air's Bold Inflight Upgrades Ahead of U.S. Return

Gulf Air, celebrating its 75th anniversary, is set to enhance its inflight offerings as it eyes a return to the U.S. market. At the Routes World 2024 conference, CEO Jeffrey Goh announced plans for soft product improvements, including upgraded food options, free Wi-Fi, and enhanced inflight entertainment. While the airline's fleet is relatively modern, with an average age of under seven years, there are no immediate plans to update seating or physical interiors. Gulf Air, which became a solely Bahraini airline in 2007, has faced stiff competition from larger carriers like Emirates and Qatar Airways. Goh, who assumed leadership in 2023, is focusing on expanding connectivity rather than competing directly with these giants. The airline aims to increase its destination count from 60 to 75 by the end of the decade, including new flights to the U.S., pending regulatory approvals. Gulf Air has already added seven new destinations this year.
