Colombian airline Avianca is set to significantly expand its operations in the U.S. by introducing five new proposed routes in 2025, primarily connecting Florida with various Latin American destinations. The expansion includes Avianca's inaugural service from Tampa International Airport (TPA) to El Dorado International Airport (BOG) in Bogotá, Colombia, marking a significant milestone for the Tampa Bay region. Other routes under consideration involve direct flights from Fort Lauderdale to Medellin, Colombia, and from Miami to San Jose, Costa Rica, as well as Guatemala City and Managua, Nicaragua. Avianca's CEO, Frederico Pedreira, emphasized the importance of these routes in fostering family connections, tourism, and business opportunities. While these proposed routes await government approval and specific start dates, the expansion reflects Avianca's growing footprint in North America, with a notable 25% increase in available seats to the U.S. in 2024 compared to the previous year.
